International Conference on Alcohol Policy to be held in Lesotho

The Thaba Bosiu Centre of the Blue Cross will host an International Conference on Alcohol Policy to be held in Lesotho on the 9th and 10th of October 2014. The conference will take place at Lehakoe in Maseru.

The Thaba Bosiu Centre of the Blue Cross will host an International Conference on Alcohol Policy to be held in Lesotho on the 9th and 10th of October 2014. The conference will take place at Lehakoe in Maseru. Participants will be drawn from the Alcohol Policy Alliance Lesotho (APAL), the Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA), the International Federation of Blue Cross (IFBC), Blue Cross Norway (BCN), Blue Cross Lesotho (BCL), Principal Secretaries and Directors from government, private and non-governmental organizations. Presenters will be drawn from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Norway and South Africa. The conference theme is: Alcohol Taxation and Marketing: Consensus Building for Policy Implementation.

The objectives of the conference are:

  • To have inputs of the participants in regard to Alcohol pricing and taxation and advertising/marketing
  • To develop and agree on a framework of consensus based on evidence given
  • To commit delegates to  a pledge of action to push the policy agenda

Stakeholders are invited to buy tables at a Gala dinner to be held on the 10th at Lesotho Sun. A table of ten will cost M5000.00 (R4985.85, $468.62, €349.69).
